Atwood is an easy 15 minute drive from Arthur, Hammond, Ivesdale, and Tuscola; and, we are about 20-30 minutes from Arcola, Bement, Camargo, Cerro Gordo, La Place, Lovington, Pesotum, Sadorus, and Villa Grove! We have members and friends who attend every Sunday from Decatur, Monticello, Newman, and Sullivan! And they believe, "A PLACE TO THRIVE IS WORTH THE DRIVE!"
Our worship services feature a Bible-driven format of Scripture Reading, Prayer, Doctrinal Confession, Testimonies, a mix of excellent "Southern Gospel", "Traditional Hymns", and "Praise Chorus" singing; and verse-by-verse expositional preaching through the Books and doctrines of the Bible. We have been blessed to have Mr. Bill Fleming serving as our Worship Leader for over thirty years, and for the past eleven years "Power of Praise!" has served as our Praise and Worship Team.
It is our desire that you get from this website a sense of our worship, our walk with the Lord, our work, and our wonderful people. Founded in 1892, First Baptist Church is a happy congregation of about 150 attending members and friends denominationally affiliated with both the Southern Baptist Convention and the American Baptist Churches, USA. You will find us to be theologically conservative, very friendly, and excited to meet you!
